A baby Mother’s day bird returns

Last year on Mother’s day we found a baby bird (later named Norm). We rescued him from the ground, brought him home, bought bird food, read about what to do with a baby bird, and in the end brought him right back to where we rescued him from and left him there. It ended with kids in tears and the question of what happened to Norm and if he survived. Apparently when a baby bird is out of the nest the best thing to do is not touch them and wait because supposedly the mom is nearby. Really hoping his momma found him on Mother’s day.

This year turned out a bit different. Lulu brought a baby bird home with the intention to kill and eat it. She dropped it (rookie mistake) and Dada grabbed it. We locked Lulu in the house and went outside with the bird. It was in shock but looked to be ok. Soon it started waking up again and hopping a bit. Everyone pet it, loved it, talked to it, and before we knew it the birdie hopped out of Toobie’s hand and into the grass. It was at this very moment that Flower decided it was a good idea to snatch the lil birdie up in her mouth and break it’s little birdie neck. The day ended in tears. There were no questions. The Momma will not find this one. It also had no name due to its abrupt and untimely death. Below our photos from our happy moments with no name bird. There are no photos from after the tragedy, but if you look at the happy photos you will see the black lab in the back just waiting for her moment. Who knew? I knew…i once saw her attack a chicken and come out with feathers all in her mouth. How did I not realize? Just like Lulu, rookie mistake.

Let’s see what next Mother’s day brings.
