A glimpse into Sophie this past week

Whew, a molar popping through and a broken leg (insert sanity shots of tequila here) have left my little pookie very hot and cold. Last night she hardly slept a wink but luckily today she has been in a great mood so it has eased the complete exhaustion that daddy and mommy are feeling from a night of no sleep. Anyway, this set of pics is from earlier this week and very clearly portray what we have been dealing with…

I LOVE MY IPAD! REALLY WHOEVER INVENTED THIS IS GENIUS!

MY SHOW HAS ENDED! BLASTED THIS BROKEN PIECE OF CRAP IPAD! YES I SAID CRAP.

I HATE THIS THING! WHERE'D MY SHOW GO? IS THERE NO QUALITY CONTROL AT APPLE?!

And she’s walking again!

1 week and 2 days and nugget is up and going again and not wanting anyone’s help. Should be an interesting couple of weeks now that she is up and going and we have to keep a bootie on her. Oh well, i’d rather it be this way than the other way around so i’ll take the challenge. Go tater tot go! Oh and she sang a morphed version of the ABC’s out of no where tonight. She’s pulling out all the tricks including a new mad face that involves a strong eyebrow movement and a high pitched scream that may just break our window or alert some wild jungle animal of our presence. Everyday is an adventure with this blessing and ugh i am so glad that those two feet are moving again and getting back on track. She is laying next to me playing a bug racing game on the ipad now and all she keeps saying is ” Set Set Go” translation “Ready Set Go”. love her xo

The Marshmallow Thief

At home Sophie is a very healthy eater with virtually every meal home cooked and chock full of veggies (other than her daily ice cream or ice pop of course). However, San Jose trips have now come to include a Milky Way bar and popcorn on the ferry, Lucky Charms box upon arrival, Applebees for dinner, and Mcdonalds for breakfast. Don’t ask me how this tradition took place (ahem, Will) but all healthy habits fly out the window when in SJ. Apparently Sophie can down a milky way in record time and enjoys  a good ole Mcdonald hashbrown and smoothie. Well, back to the photo below…this box made it home with us to Santa since we were only in SJ for a day and as one would expect we have a little marshmallow thief on our hands. She picks out all the magically delicious mallows and leaves the plain ole cereal for the ole folk. When she is through her mouth is usually a very natural shade of green or blue.

Wee Walker cast

So little nugget managed to fracture her tibia by simply sitting on her leg wrong…of all the things. She rides waves, climbs couches, sits on tables, scales up rocks, and she breaks her leg sitting…really?! Yup, true story.

She sat funny on her leg on tuesday night, let out a little squeal and then didnt want to walk on it all night. The next morning we took her to the dr. in town who assumed it was a sprain since she didnt have any swelling or bruising. She gave us some pain medication and a little muscle rub and we were on our way. We called our pedi in the States and he assumed it was the same and said to give it a few days. 4 days later she still didnt want to walk and we just couldnt take it anymore so off to San Jose we went.

On the way to San Jose we grabbed the dogs to drop them off at Deanne’s so she could watch them for the night. Of course on the drive up the hill to Deanne’s we hit a bump and charles pops out of the back seat and falls on the floor. We drop him off at Deanne’s limping on two legs. Yup, true story. We now had a limping dog and a limping child.

5 hours and a boat ride later we arrive in San Jose and head over to CIMA (private hospital). This story will have to continue when Sophie is not throwing donald duck at my head and yelling “catch mommy”. I’ll be back. Ok ipad saves the day. So at CIMA the nugget was smiling and waving at everyone- until someone tried to touch her and take her temperature. All hell broke loose and from there on in if anyone tried to touch her she absolutely positively went insane. Not just like no dont touch me please, like complete leg kicking insane. This was especially great considering we needed to do an xray where she would have to sit completely still. The solution: swaddle her upper body in a blanket so she couldnt move and then mommy and daddy just held her leg down for some photo ops. The entire time she just looked up at me and repeated “im stuck, mommy, stuuuuuuck”.

3 hours later it was confirmed by the ortho specialist that tater tot had fractured her tibia. He agreed to put her in a removable cast since it wasn’t a bad break and it would make our life easier for swimming, bathing, and that dreaded moment of “Shoe on (meaning shoe off)” and us not being able to take it off. As soon as the dr. said “cast” Will and I both had visions of a screaming toddler wanting this foreign plaster thing off her leg and in her very typical toddler fashion, repeating this request over and over and over in an ever so pleasant screechy whine!

Luckily the Wee Walker entered the room and we were able to leave the hospital without a permanent case and screaming child. In fact she thought it was a new shoe and when we put it on she said “look mommy, it’s pretty”. Clearly she didnt share that sentiment 3 hours later or the next morning, but we’re slowly getting back to her shoe being pretty and not a complete screaming match and leg kicking fiasco…slowly.

We picked up a four legged walking Charles so luckily he sorted his limp out and Sophie is beginning to stand a bit in her cast and hopefully will soon start walking in it without pain. Whew it has been a long week and thankfully everyone is well but im pretty sure some new grey hairs have made their appearance.

Here is a pic of Sophie’s high tech leg cast. Im sure there will be plenty more in the next 4 weeks. Ugh, 4 weeks of this cast. I think i just puked a little. However, all the stress aside, Sophie has been her usual trooper self and I am so very proud of our little munchkin! She has a broken leg and can’t run like the little looney she wants to be but she still manages to smile, joke, and be her usual loving prankster self!
