Pooks at school

Ashley sent me these pics from school the other day. The kids were watching and learning how to cook authentic Costa Rican food from a Tica. The lesson was all in spanish which is awesome! Sophie didn’t like the food at all (it was corn cakes and some rice milk thing. She was hoping for Gallo Pinto). Another girl in class named Aria was braiding her hair while they were watching the lesson. So sweet.

This is another photo she posted that Sophie is not in but is awesome. She wrote “Kids teaching Kids”. In this pic you can see the older kids sitting and helping the younger ones with some work. Such an amazing concept. Ugh, if i dont stop writing now i’ll start endlessly gushing about Ashley and her school so here is the pic.

Sabsy and Jadyel

The other day while Pooks was at school, Sabsy and Jadyel hung out at our place. Usually we hang out with him downstairs but today he came up by us and they had a blast. They played blocks, ate some of our homemade ice pops (jadyel apparently only like apples so mango, orange, banana, strawberry, and kiwi layered ice pops was pushing it a bit…lol).

Sabs just loves him. She says his name non stop and they always hold hands and pull each other places. Precious peanuts. He is one of the sweetest little boys on the planet. He is terrified of Charlie which is quite hilarious. You can see it in the video, also love how little sabsy pets his head all the time. He speaks only spanish so it is cool to hear them mimicking each other’s languages. xoxo

His face says it all in pic below. He never said eww or gross. He just took a lick and then handed it to me. BAHAHAHA.

This is about when he gave up on the ice pop realizing it was fruit and not helado (which is what he thought it was)

The Boovs

This is Sabsy’s new favorite movie lately. It has taken the place of Shrek for now and she has started to memorize lines. For the first 5 minutes of this movie she always attempts to say what they are saying and do their movements. She does this with Shrek too. I’ll have to get it on video. She is too much!!

Homemade Challah bread!

Holla…we made homemade Challah! Yup, Pooks and momma got to bread making this morning and although we may need to perfect the looks of our bread, the taste was on point! Pooks made a slug and a smiley face roll. I tried to make a loaf that looks like a bunch of grapes, and then attempted to make some braided rolls.

My grapes and pookie’s slug

Feliz dia de Independencia (or as Pookie calls it, Happy Appendix Day)

Today Pooks went to school to make a lantern for Independence day in Costa Rica. We picked her up at 2:30 and came home for a little snack and pool time with Sabsy before we all headed out again at 4:30 to meet up with everyone for the town parade.

Ashley heard it started at 5pm so we all met up at one of the supermarkets where it was supposedly starting. Turns out we were an hour early, and at the wrong market (typical CR situation). Apparently 1/2 the town was under the same impression. Anyway, we found the correct starting point, waited about 45 minutes as everyone was arriving with their lanterns and amazing creations, and then finally the band started playing and we headed on our march!

It was about an hour long by the time we got to the finishing point. I made sure to stay close to the band so that Sabs would be mesmerized and distracted by the drums, rather than focusing on the fact that we were walking in a line like a herd of cows in the heat. It worked, and we had a bunch of fun. We saw friends and neighbors from town all along the way and Sophie waved her little Costa Rican flag as we made our way down the road.

I dont have many pics b/c it was getting dark and we were busy chatting and marching but here are a few from our little adventure.

After the parade we piled into the car and waited as the tail end finished marching. Sabs had her head out the window yelling “Hola Jadyel” to everyone who marched by. I dont know what they thought she was saying but she received a great response and yelled strong for about 5 minutes of the ride. We had to pick up the quad 1/2 way back b/c we had gotten it serviced that day. The girls and I rode the quad in the dark and Pooks was completely geeking out yelling Yee Haw as we were riding down the road. We stopped for some yummy ice cream and got home a little after 7:30. When we were walking into the house Pookie looked at us and said “So is Appendix day over?”. She seriously thought we were celebrating the people getting their appendix taken out. Priceless.

Heading to school again :)

It is crazy how much Pookie is loving school and also nuts how this week all of a sudden she is memorizing sight words and figuring out how to sound out words all at once. It is all coming together for her and it is so cool to watch.

She went running up the hill again and couldn’t get to class fast enough. The kids call themselves “The crew” and Sophie told me the other day “Hey Momma you know im part of the crew too”. Bless her heart…she sure is part of the crew. Ashley said that she made several of their grateful lists on friday and the kids just adore her. Even the little girl who was jealous came around and when Pooks walked in the door on friday she yelled “Hi Sophie”. Ashley said she totally changed her tune and was even helping Sophie do some math work. All good things :).

Pooks went to class both Wednesday and Friday this past week (we were in San Jose til Tuesday). This week I think she is going Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. I have a feeling this is going to become a regular thing rather quickly. Today she is going to see Ashley for private tutoring at 4pm, and she woke up at 7:30am, brushed her hair and got dressed to go. I guess she was fairly excited- haha!

Here are some pics from Pooks running up to class, and from funny little Sabs chillin solo with Momma and Dada while peanut is at school.

Going to pick up sissy at end of day! Sabsy was so excited she ran right in and gave her a big hug! Then when it was time to leave she scurried into the school like a little animal and didn’t want to leave Ashley’s side. She finally was ok when she realized that Sophie was coming with us and not staying.

Jueves en Taller de Arte

Another thursday at art class! Our house is being overrun by massive amounts of art work (btwn school, art class, and home projects) and I love it! I must figure out a better way to display it all b/c the fridge and windows aren’t cutting it anymore. It is incredible how much spanish Sophie is picking up at this one class. So cool! Her teacher came out of the class with her this week just gushing about how great she is. So thankful for these amazing teachers she is surrounded by and of course amazing pooks!

We’ve upgraded from bowl to baby pool in the shower!

The other day i saw this at the supermarket for $14.00 and thought it would be a fun surprise for the girls. They absolutely love it!! We have definitely gotten our money’s worth on this one. Sabi is like a little robot walking around the house saying “wanna play pool. sissy play pool”. When Dada was blowing it up he poked a little hole in the top ring so it is a bit deflated. We bought some crazy glue or Goma Loca as it is called here and he patched it up this morning. I’m guessing we’re going to have a few more baby pool purchases in our future.

Of course Sabi brought her bowl into the pool to sit in, and sissy put it on her back pretending she was a turtle. Whack-a-doos.

Then naturally she has to make the baby pool more dangerous than it needs to be.

Our growing plants

When we got home from NY we planted Sophie’s fairy garden. She has been obsessed with checking on it every morning. Dada also put a bean in water to show Sophie how it will sprout. His is pretty impressive (i dont think i took a pic of what it looked like at first but it was a bean).
