Whew the kids and I were on the move yesterday. It was cold but thankfully sunny. We bundled up and went all over town, part by foot and the rest by Uber. Super fun day with these two. Im one lucky momma! They made little buddies everywhere we went and
Yesterday the girls and I walked to Alta Plaza when the sun finally came out. It was out for about 1/2 hour and then started raining on us. This was of course Sophie’s favorite part and she ran out dancing in the rain and singing and then we all found a little shelter under the slide and froze our bums off for a bit.
The girls were mesmerized by the fact that their breath was making smoke. We stayed outside huddled together making smoke and pretending we were dragons. It was so cute to watch them so amazed by this “cold” phenomenon. Sophie couldnt feel her fingers (in 50 degree weather) and just kept talking about all the things that were happening from the cold.
Today the sun is shining and rain is no were in sight so we are heading to a museum, playground and carousel! Time to hit the streets 🙂
Well, we arrived in SF and it was cooold and cloudy (as usual) but the apt is beautiful and perfect for us, and the neighborhood is super nice so we’ll have no problem killing time this week. We had groceries delivered a few hours after we arrived so the kitchen was stocked and ready to go and by 6pm the kids had broccoli soup in front of them.
Will went into the office for a few hours and ended up stuck there until after the girls and I fell asleep. I knew he had a set of keys so i just locked up and headed to bed. What i didnt know was that his set of keys didn’t open the deadbolt that i conveniently locked before dozing off. What i also didnt know was that for 2 hours he was trying to call my phone, text, and facetime me to open the door so he could get in. Unfortunately for Will, he set up my phone to go to silent every night after 7pm so all his cries for help were never heard. Fortunately for him, i wake up randomly throughout the night and at 2am saw his messages, popped out of bed, and opened the front door to find poor will sitting in the stairwell patiently waiting. Yes for 2 hours after midnight he was stuck in the stairwell. He handled it way better than i would have and while it wasnt really my fault i still feel bad but really saw the humor in it straight away.
So aside from the puke episode and stranded stairwell incident…all has been going great! Some pics from the first day of the girls and i freezing our bums off. Sophie looked out the window and said “Poor tree, it only has one leaf. One little leaf…how sad”. SHe then said “How do people live here in the cold? I just want to sit in the hot shower all day, then come out and eat hot broccoli soup in front of the hot heater, under a blanket” hahahaha. It is 50 degrees. How did she ever live in Chicago??
Yesterday when we got home we did some laundry and the laundry machine in the building is down in the garage (3 floors down in outdoor stairwell and then in a separate room) and I battled with whether or not i could leave the girls upstairs alone in an apt which i finally decided i probably shouldn’t so 3 separate times i had to lug them down windy stairs in the outdoor rain to wash, dry, and then get laundry.
After each of those times the girls come upstairs and strip naked like always which means 3 separate times i had to dress the girls to go back downstairs…and by dress i mean leggings, tops, jackets, shoes. Finally the last time (and the laundry wasn’t even dry) i just put undies on them and put my jacket on sophie and sophie’s jacket on sabs and left them flipping naked under b/c i had enough. This is how we do laundry in the city, outdoors in mizzy rain. It’s enough of this clothes nonsense.
Well, the drive to San Jose was fun and uneventful. Sabs had us crying laughing when it sounded like sophie said a curse in the car (of course she didnt) but little sister Sabs is first to jump on it and out of nowhere informs everyone “Sissy said Oh Shit”. Oh man it was so hilarious coming out of her little mouth and in her little trickster way…sissy was obviously not a fan of this and it took about 5 minutes to recover but all worth it.
We all went out to dinner, had some ice cream and then conked out for our travels the next morning. We promised Sabs we would take her to the playground at “Old McDonalds” (yes thats what she calls mcdonalds and we dont correct her). She also calls the Ferry “the tooth ferry” and obviously we dont correct that either. So we ate some bfast and headed to Mcdonalds where they got some energy out. Then we went to take rental car back and hopped on airport shuttle to catch our flight.
All was going great until we arrived at the airport. Literally we were at the airport door, exiting the van, and Sabs hurls her entire breakfast all over me. Chunks of cheese in my hair, down my shirt, all down her shirt, all over our seat…everywhere!! I flung her outside the van where she stood on the airport sidewalk finishing her hurl session, topless, in front of airport doors. It def topped Sophie’s hurling episode on the Disney airport bus years ago.
Luckily because of the past experiences, I had everything on hand for this situation. Sabs and I headed into airport bathroom and changed all of our clothes. I rinsed my hair with shampoo in the bathroom sink and piled all our dirty clothes into a sealed puke bag. We still wreaked like vomit until Texas, but at least we didnt have any on us. Apparently vomit smell lingers longer than Sabs poop. Bless the man next to us on the flight (who was flying for the first time ever) and was sitting next to the vomit duo.
Here is Sabs post vomit enjoying her flight and gummy bears
and here she is pre-vomit, about to consume all her vomitable breakfast items (which mainly consisted of a white cheese that is not on her plate b /c it is all in her belly waiting to come out her mouth)
Some pics from hotel in SJ
And we made it to Houston! Enjoyed live music and a yummy dinner 🙂
Happy Valentine’s day!! Our day wasn’t very different from every other which is what fills my heart the most. I married a man who makes me feel like his valentine every day of the year! We went for our morning run and then on the way back found our secret full moon tide pool and jumped in for a swim. It was beautiful!
In the morning we all gave each other cards, the girls were surprised with some treats, Dada picked fresh flowers from the yard, and i failed at trying to make an egg heart. I made up for it by baking Sophie’s specials Valentine’s request (Nana’s twice baked potatoes). I also made a batch of Will’s favorite enchiladas and Sabs pretty much ate chocolate all day.
On Valentine’s day in 2012, Sophie broke out and started swimming all on her own at 2 1/2. On Valentine’s day in 2017 Sabi all of a sudden decided that her poop could go in a toilet at 3 1/2. Here she is…no turning back now.
There she is on her throne and owning it. Valentine’s day milestones seem to be a thing around here. Now on to some cards, of course Sophie had her cards hidden for days around the house. She kept moving them from different spots and i kept pretending not to notice b/c she was so excited. Oh little ball of love. Sabs was bursting at the seams to tell us about the chocolate cupcake pops they made as a surprise for us with ashley.
In the afternoon i hung out with this nut ball…who had me cracking up the whole time. We sailed safely in our living room on land.
Meanwhile Sissy was out to sea with Dada, Ash and a group of about 10 other people. Sophie got to jump off the boat (over and over again) and Will said she was screaming “This is the best day ever!!!!” as she jumped and a guy looked at Will and said “man i wish i could see life like she does” hahaha. Dont we all 🙂
