Happy 5 months Martha!
Oh sweet Martha- you are 5 months already! You have gathered more nicknames than anyone in this family and you are scrumptious! So far your nicknames are Martha, Rooskie, Tooskie, Roo, Maruski, Num Num Reenos, Nums Nums, Turducken, and Im sure there are more im forgetting. All these nicknames are said out of pure love and the fact that none of us can handle your cuteness. You are edible!
Hmm some 5 month updates:
You got your first fever and it was awful. You were so sad and whimpering and it broke everyone’s heart. I had to put cool towels on you to keep your temp down and give you lots of cuddles and boob. It lasted about 24hrs and then you vomited and came to. All in all it took about 3 days until you were your little Roo self again.
You have tried some foods mainly bc you keep staring at Dada when he eats and he can’t help it when he sees your little face. You’ve sucked on nectarines, apples, bananas, avocado and pineapple. You make this little face like you think you’re so cool b/c you’re eating…and you are. You are that cool.
You are still full of smiles all the time, sweet giggles, chill, and pure happiness. In the mornings when you wake up you just roll over and smile. Ughhh it is everything. Dada is sleeping with you now a bunch while we are traveling and it fills his heart to have you next to him. He is such a proud Dada and rightfully so.
You have traveled to Chicago, North Carolina, Denmark, Norway, and some road trips in CR. You have proven to be a perfect travel partner and you just like to be carried around in the Ergo see the world. You will also chill in your stroller which is new for us and pretty awesome but if given a choice you like to be in the carrier all day.
You are still drooling and chewing on everything so we’re pretty sure a tooth is heading your way.
You sleep great but lately it’s been up in the air with travels, time changes and this little thing called the midnight sun. Yup it is sunny and light at midnight and confusing everyone.
You are starting to sit up on your own and love to practice. You are rolling, scooting, and yapping away. Everything goes from your hand to your mouth.
We love you sweet Roo!!! You are the greatest little baby in the world! Happy 5 months Tadooskie (forgot about that nickname). xoxoxoxoxo
Back to Copenhagen!
Happy Dada’s Day 2019
The first Father’s Day as a dad of 3! What lucky girls to have such an amazing Dada! You rock, you are our rock, and we love you! I am so proud of you this year and every year. You are hilarious, handsome, helpful, happy, honest, hard working, handy, and heaps of fun- Yup went with all “H’s” there…in case you didn’t catch that and for no reason in particular. Gotta rush through this since I am a mom of 3 now and you’re at the bank so momma has no back up. In all seriousness you are everything and I am so thankful we found each other and created this beautiful family/life together. Happy Dada’s Day in Denmark (all D’s there). LYAOFWAMHMTAFF
Some pics from country house in Odense
Road trippin to the countryside!!
We rented a car and went off to the countryside! Our first stop was to find a hidden giant in the forest. I had read an article about a sculpture who designed these cool giants and hid them in the forest surrounding Copenhagen. He has a little treasure map that you can use to try and find them. It took us to this beach that had trails around it and there happened to be a school trip there so the girls made buddies. It was such a fun stop along the way and we ate at a cute cafe, Roo took a nap and the girls got in the freezing cold water.
Exploring the new hood (a few blocks down) and we have found a new licorice finally!!
Off to see our first play in Danish and Martha (new nickname) gets a fever :(.
Before we arrived in Denmark I was chatting with a homeschool family here and they invited us to come to a musical they were putting on in their yard. They have 4 kids and they had gotten together with a few other families and all put on a musical. It was all in danish but the girls loved it and they had a little event they put together with face painting, raffles, food, etc.
For about 2 weeks now we’ve been calling Roo “Martha” it came from this phrase she laughs at when I say “Hiya watha Martha” and then after that evolved into Roo being called Martha.
Then the morning after the play poor Roo came down with her first fever and I had to wrap a cool rag around her head. Her fever was 102 in the armpit which means it was higher than that and she was just miserable. She couldnt get comfortable, and just nursed and whimpered all day long.
This was the last day in our Airbnb and we had to pack up and move airbnb’s the next morning. We were just moving to a new one down the road but packing up and dealing with a sick baby that doesnt want to sleep or be put down was tricky. Will and I still couldn’t believe how efficiently we ended up getting our sh*t together.
We also had to check out of one Airbnb in the morning and then wait a few hours until we were able to check into the other one. They let us drop our bags off so we didnt have to lug them around but poor Martha had to sit in my baby carrier all sick and just try and get comfy outside while we waited. She was a champ but ugh that was challenging seeing her so sick. She is such an easy, happy little spirit that none of us could get over seeing her so sad. We decided we would give it 24 hrs to see if her fever went down and if not then Michael (the owner of the first airbnb) offered to take us to the emergency and help out if she was still ill. Will and I had a feeling it was the same virus Sabi had so we just gave it a little time to see. Sure enough Martha vomited all over the place in the new airbnb the next night and then woke up fever free the following morning.
It took about 3 days for her to go back to her old Martha self but I am happy to report she is happy and silly ole martha once again! The pic below kinda solidified her nickname b/c i mean you dont get much more Martha than that.
Creepily at the play we went to the day before, a lady gave the girls a gift she won from the raffle. They opened it up and it was an old doll (which creeps Sophie out as is) and on the doll’s leg was written “MARTHA”. The girls have been trying to figure out how to get rid of Martha without her getting pissed a coming back to haunt them. I said we could “accidentally” leave her at an airbnb but theyre not convinced she won’t come back. On the less creepy note I looked up the family’s kid’s names (of the musical we went to) and their oldest daughter is named Martha. So I mean the rational side is that is was Martha’s doll but of course no one wants to hear that.
Martha is currently in my suitcase and her future is pending.
Day trip to Malmo, Sweden…or as we call it- Mal”no”.
We took a bus and 2 trains and went to Malmo, Sweden. When we were on our last train an old lady started chatting with us and all seemed quite normal. As we were getting off the train she said “Mind you down get shot”. Hmmm. Will looked at me like “where the hell did you take us to?” I assured him that i read it is a great place to visit and lots of families have posted day trips so it can’t be dangerous.
We walk out of the station and there are trucks driving by full of people in sailor hats, honking horns and screaming while holding signs written in Swedish (See below). It looked and sounded like a war zone, a protest, i don’t know but something that “mind you dont get shot” all of a sudden sounded too real.
Then i remembered reading that this is a celebration they do for graduation day! The hats aren’t sailor hats but actually graduation caps. The graduates all go in the back of trucks with whistles, signs, blasting music, etc and everyone drives around town honking at them. It was insanity.
We ended up eating lunch in Malmo and then jumping on a train back to the nice and quiet Copenhagen. We ate at an Irish pub and ironically it was the first time we all ate out since traveling. I mean we’ve picked up sandwiches, ordered a pizza, and that sort of thing but this was the first proper sit down since traveling.
Since our adventure we have learned 3 things:
- Malmo is not necessarily crazy like we saw it. That is a one off celebration for graduates and normally all the families flee town for that weekend b/c the students take over and party.
- “Mind you dont get shot” was actually a serious comment and people say Malmo is getting a bit of a bad rep b/c of the amount of refugees they let in but i think it is more of the older/conservate peeps that think this. It is perfectly safe and by all means safer than many other places we’ve traveled to.
- Will is not a fan of Malmo but the girls and I got a kick out of all the honking, dancing, partying graduates. Malmo will forever be coined as Mal”no” in Will’s head. Also important to note that after going there we know it is pronounced Malmooo not Malmow but Malmow and Malno work so Malmow it is.
